Sunlabob provides water purification training for staff at NAFC

On July 27-28, Sunlabob conducted a Solar Water Purification System training session for staff at the Northern Agriculture and Forestry College (NAFC).
The Solar Water Purification System was installed as part of a project to improve the college's infrastructure and provide the necessary facilities for improved water access throughout the campus. Prior to the installation of the purification system, water that was supplied to the college contained high levels of calcium, thus making it unsuitable for drinking. The water purification system, with several different filters, treats the water, remove the high levels of calcium and provide clean drinking water for students and staff at the college.
The training sessions focused primarily on the effective management of the system and covered topics such as the system’s business model, income generation opportunities and maintenance cost. A technical session also taught NAFC staff how to operate, troubleshoot and maintain the system.
Besides the initial technical and operational training, Sunlabob will also provide ongoing support, water quality checks and provide replacement components.
Sunlabob has thus far implemented several Solar Water Purification Systems throughout Laos, bringing safe drinking water to over 10,000 people.
In Lao PDR, only half of the population has access to safe drinking water. Lack of access to clean water contributes to keeping whole communities in poverty and causes serious illnesses such as diarrhea, the biggest cause of child death in the country today.
Often, villagers have to source for water from nearby rivers, wells or rainfall. As the water is dirty, they have to collect firewood or purchase charcoal to boil the water, resulting in several hours lost a day collecting firewood. Moreover, the burning of firewood also gives off harmful fumes.
Combining state-of-the-art technology and an innovative operational model, Sunlabob’s Solar Powered Water Purification System addresses this issue. The system provides technology to supply clean drinking water in communities where traditional solutions cannot be applied.
