From May 28 - June 1, Sunlabob’s Chief Operating Officer Simon Henschel participated in the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 21st East Asia gathering brought together over 500 key decision-makers from government, industry, civil society and academia, and had an emphasis on ASEAN regional economic development as well as the following industry sectors: travel & tourism, energy, infrastructure & transportation, financial services, agriculture, and mobile health.
One of the forum’s activities included a Learning Journey, funded by the Thai government, where Young Global Leaders (YGL) and Social Entrepreneurs (SE) visited the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, a social enterprise in Chiang Rai, Thailand - a fantastic example of holistic community re-development.
At the foundation, Simon met with fellow young leaders and engaged in knowledge sharing sessions on the issues and possible solutions concerning sustainable development.
Participants also had valuable discussions with local community leaders and learnt how working with the foundation has changed their habits.
"It is an honour to be part of such a prestigious network and I am thrilled to have been able to meet so many like-minded individuals and organisations. I look forward to learning more on great collaborative initiatives for the energy security of the developing world,” said Simon Henschel.
On the final day of the forum, Simon also had the opportunity to attend an exclusive private session with the meeting’s Co-Chair Gerard Mestrallet (CEO & Chairman of GDF Suez, a Schwab Foundation partner company).
