2014-01-IRENA

As part of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) annual Assembly in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Sunlabob joined 35 other leading renewable energy advocates from both industry and civil society to launch the “Coalition for Action to Bolster Public Support for Renewable Energy.”

The Coalition – which was ratified by the Heads of State and Ministers from over 150 countries as well as representatives from 120 international organizations gathered for the IRENA Assembly – aims to communicate clear messages about renewable energy with both the public and policymakers around the world.

The Coalition’s 36 founding members include diverse stakeholder groups from numerous countries, including utility companies, renewable energy manufacturers, industry associations and civil society organizations. In addition to Sunlabob, among the founding members convened by IRENA are major private sector representatives like Vestas, First Solar and Abengoa, as well civil sector representatives like the UN Foundation, Greenpeace and WWF International.

Sunlabob, alongside the other Coalition founding organizations, have made commitments including: strengthening the case for renewable energy through the sharing of evidence and communications materials and engaging with key stakeholders with clear, targeted messages highlighting the sustainable use of renewable energy technologies.

Following the IRENA Assembly on January 18-19, Sunlabob will participate in the World Future Energy Summit (January 20-22 in Abu Dhabi), including speaking of multiple panels about rural energy access and renewable energy.
